    CueCard floats on top of Instagram, so you keep recording in the app you always use and your video comes out of it exactly as it always has.

    Put the floating window just under the front camera and let it scroll. On camera it reads as talking to someone, not reading off a page.

Record an Instagram Reel with CueCard

Use CueCard with Instagram in six short steps, from the saved script to the final take.

  1. 01

    Write the Instagram Reel script

    Keep each line short enough to read near the lens, then save the script in CueCard so it is ready for another take.

  2. 02

    Set a comfortable pace

    Choose the scroll speed and text size in CueCard, then rehearse the opening once before you record.

  3. 03

    Float CueCard over Instagram

    Tap the green play button, then Start Overlay. CueCard shrinks into a movable window while Instagram stays open.

  4. 04

    Open the Instagram Reel camera

    In Instagram, tap Create, choose Reel, and switch to the selfie camera before starting the clip.

  5. 05

    Keep the record button clear

    Place CueCard just below the front camera without covering Instagram’s record or camera-switch controls.

  6. 06

    Record and review the Reel

    Film a short test, check your eye-line and pace, then adjust CueCard before recording the final Reel.

Questions about CueCard for Instagram

Does CueCard work with Instagram Reels?

Yes. CueCard floats over the Instagram app, so you can see your script while recording Reels directly in Instagram.

Can I use it for Instagram Stories?

Yes. Keep your talking points visible while recording Stories, whether it's a quick update or a longer narrative.

Does it work with Instagram Live?

Yes. Float your notes over Instagram while going Live. Perfect for Q&A sessions, product launches, or any live content.

Why is the floating window missing?

Return to CueCard and open the prompter with the green play button. Tap the script to reveal controls and look for Start Overlay. The overlay button appears when picture-in-picture is available. Close another active picture-in-picture window and try again. If it still fails, use the full-screen reader on a second device while recording.

What if the script moves too fast?

Lower Scroll Speed in Settings and rehearse a short passage. Text size and window shape change how many words fit on each line, so check the pace again after resizing. Scrolling does not automatically follow your voice.

What if CueCard covers a camera control?

Move the floating window to another corner. Adjust Dimension Ratio and Floating Prompter Text Size in CueCard Settings, then return to your recording app. Keep the recording and camera-switch buttons reachable.

Will the script appear in my video?

Camera recording captures the image through the lens, so the floating script is not part of that footage. Phone screen recording or a screen broadcast can capture the window. Record a short camera test and review it before posting.

Is CueCard free?

Yes. CueCard is completely free on mobile and on desktop, and open source under the MIT licence. Read the code on GitHub — and a star is always welcome.

Is CueCard open source?

Yes, MIT licensed, on GitHub. An app that can see your script is one worth being able to read the source of.

Where are my scripts stored?

On your device. Your notes are not uploaded to us. The privacy policy sets out exactly what is and is not kept.
